It also provides normal file management functions including copy/ move/delete, directory tree management, and more. ARJ, LHA, ZIP, and ARCE are supported. Archiver for Windows Miller-Ware Development $25 #27748/3766 is a complete Windows environment for PKZip, LHArc, ZOO and ARCE. It also supports the virus detection programs SCAN and VIRx. Within it's simple point and shoot interface you can create archives, unarchive, and view and print file contents. It also provides archive information, will convert formats, can create self-extracting archives, and can add archive and file comments. Other programs can be executed via a Launch Pad feature. Other features include the ability to selectively delete files within an archive, and freshening and testing capabilities. Requires PKZIP/UNZIP (U1-1705), or LHA (U1-1862), and over 500K of disk space. VBRUN, which is required by many other programs in the Windows section of PsL, is included with this package. Flashpoint ZIP Tools for Windows FlashPoint Development $50 #27748/4039 is a set of file compression and extraction applications which are compatible with PKZIP/UNZIP 1.1. FPZIP can compress one or more files, file directories, and directory branches into a single ZIP archive. The created ZIP file can store a member file's name, relative path, size, date and time last modified, a file comment, and other important information. FPZIPX will list and extract member files, test the compressed file's integrity, and can recreate or build directories which are stored within a ZIP file. Also included in WIZiper, a slick graphic interface for FPZIP/UNZIP. Other features include WIN31 drag and drop compatibility, a directory browser, and more. Windows UnArchive 2.22 [WUNA22] (11-93 CD) Hughes, James N. $10-$15 #27748/4296 is an extremely easy-to-use program to extract and decompress files from ZIP and ARJ format archives. It takes the place of both command-line DOS unarchivers and Windows-based front ends for those utilities. Features include on-line help, the ability to run a member file using its association, and a Try Out option that allows you to run a file then move it or delete it quickly. Zip Manager 4.0 Software Excellence By Design Inc. $53 #27748/3978 [2 disks] is a complete Windows environment for PKZIP and PKUNZIP. It supports PKZIP 1.10, 2.04, and ARJ. Other features include WIN31 drag and drop support, DOS 6.0 and DblSpace compatibility, and much more. Requires PKZIP/UNZIP (#1705). WinZip 4.1a [WINZIP] (11-93 CD) Mak, Nico ASP $29 #20007/4535 is a ZIP file manager for Windows. Features include a well-done pushbutton interface for adding, deleting, extracting, and viewing members of a ZIP file; an extended-selection list box with the names, sizes, and date/time stamps of files in a ZIP file; extensive on-line hypertext help/documentation; full support for LZH files (including self-extracting LZH files); support for Norton Desktop for Windows; and support for PKZIP 2.0. It also features a facility to extract all files in a ZIP to a temporary directory and create a Program Manager group for all files in the ZIP. Support is provided for ARC files and self-extracting ZIP files. An optional interface to Virus Scan software is available. Requires PKZIP and PKUNZIP on disk #1705. Installation is very easy, and all options can be saved and restored. Xtract for Windows 1.0 EccentriX $15 #20007/4683 is a unique drag-and-drop front end for PKUNZIP and ARJ. You simply drag an archive file from the directory listing over to the destination directory and the files are automatically extracted. Other features include options to view the contents of an archived file, a trashcan icon for deleting files, the ability to create directories, multiple archive file extraction, and more. Requires Windows 3.1. Zipit 2.2 [ZIPIT2] (11-93 CD) Schlackman, Robert $15 #20007/4651 is an easy-to-use Windows shell for PKZIP/PKUNZIP (on disk #1705). All you have to do is click on the source files and specify the target directory. Options include the ability to create a new directory and the ability to store directories in an archive. Requires VBRUN200. ZipShell 2.50 [ZIPS250] (09-93 CD) NewVision $25 #20007/4521 provides a graphic Windows interface for PKZIP/UNZIP. It allows you to perform compression/decompression functions without having to learn any complicated command line arguments. You can easily add files to an archive using Windows 3.1 drag and drop capabilities, or view text files in an archive with the built-in file viewer. Other features include support for ARJ, ARC, LZH, and self-extracting archives; full drag-and-drop support; encryption support; and more. This is a very well-done program, with an impressive 3-D interface. Requires WIN31, PKZIP/UNZIP (on disk #1705) and VBRUN200. Drag & Zip 3.0 (DRAGZIP) 08-93 CD Baumbach, Dan ASP $25 #12702 is a WIN31 drag and drop front end for PKZIP and LHA. You can drag files from File Manager and drop them on D&Z which will then use PKZIP on them to compress them into Zip files. Requires PKZIP (on disk #1705) or LHA (on disk #1862). Also include is Zip View, which will show you the contents of the Zip file. You can view files, run programs, delete files and extract any file or group of files from the Zip file. QuinZip 2.2 Quintessence Corporation $35 #4999 is a ZIP/UNZIP utility for Windows. It performs all the required functions without ever leaving the Windows environment. The point-and-click interface is very easy to operate. WinUnZip 2.0 Coulter, Mickey $10 #4582 is used to unarchive ZIP files. You simply select the file you want to process, and it will unzip with each filename and compression method listed in the client window. You can also selectively extract member files, list the contents of ZIP files, set the destination path for extraction, use stored directories when extracting files, view member text files, and specify the viewing program. WizUnzip 1.3 Info-ZIP $0 #12047 extracts, tests, and displays files archived in ZIP format. Options are provided to recreate directory structures, translate CR-LF to LF, beep on completion, and much more. This is a true Windows application and does NOT require PKUNZIP. ANTI-VIRUS & SECURITY: ====================== Security for Windows Miller-Ware Development $20 #3689 prevents access to Windows without the correct password. All that is required is a simple edit to your WIN.INI file. If it is invoked and no response is received to the request for password verification within 5 minutes, a screen blanker will take control. 512K and a hard disk are required. ViruScan for Windows 9.15 v104 [VSCANWIN] (09-93 CD) McAfee Associates $35 #4041 is a Windows implementation of McAfee's famous SCAN program. It provides a host of scanning options, has detailed on-line help, and also includes the DOS version of SCAN. Other features include automated installation, and a text file giving detailed information about viruses. WinLock 3.06 [WINLOCK] (09-93 CD) TeraVision $21 #12516 helps protect your Windows and LAN environment from unauthorized use. It can lock Windows and require a password at startup, on demand, or after a user-defined time period. When locked, all keyboard and mouse activity is restricted. Intruders are greeted with a flashing red screen, an audible alarm, and deterrent messages. Other features include screen saver compatibility and an on-screen record of unauthorized password attempts. WINProtect Trend Micro Devices ASP $12 #4455 is a virus scanning program for Windows. It can find and eradicate all known viruses, including stealth viruses and viruses that modify themselves. Scanning options allow you to scan a file, directory, disk, or all volumes. DISK & FILE UTILITIES: ====================== DiskMan for Windows 2.1 (08-93 CD) Nault, Gary D. ASP $35 #4643 is a combination disk cataloger and labeling program. It can print labels for your floppy disks as well as keep track of all your files on your floppies, Bernoullis, and hard drives. A log of all your disks can be printed. Both single sheet laser labels and continuous feed dot matrix labels are supported. DiskTrak for Windows Peninsula Software $25 #4526 allows you to easily create a database of all your diskettes with the files and free space available on each one. You can also include a comment/ description for each file, and extract names stored inside archived files. Partial name searches can be performed on disk name, file name, and comments. Other features include re-labeling of diskettes, five different printed reports, DOS shell, and more. VBRUN is included on this disk. Encrypt-It for Windows 2.01 [EIW] (12-93 CD) MaeDae Enterprises $59 #12274 is a powerful encryption/decryption package. It allows you to encrypt files using DES encryption and cipher block chaining. It also provides a secure-erase feature. Files can be encrypted singly or in groups. Other features include full multi-tasking support, a graphic percentage box, keyboard interface, protected key entry, and more. File Deduplicator 1.4d [dupe14] (11-93 CD) Babbacombe Computers Ltd. $25 #3713 locates disk files which have the same name and are the same size or have identical contents. It produces a list of duplicate files for you to examine and gives you several options for deleting. This is extremely fast and very easy to use. FileFind Snake River Software $12 #3977 allows you to quickly and easily locate and manipulate files anywhere on your hard drive or network drives. Any disk may be searched for files, and multiple directories may be searched. FileFind will optionally run, copy, move, print, or delete found files. Grep Unlimited Hovel, David $20 #3683 is a powerful text and binary file search and viewing program. You can search directories or entire disks with a single command, and the results are placed in a group list. To view a file, you simply double click on it's filename. Grep can search for files using either multiple string search or regular expressions. Any file type can be searched, including EXEs, word processing documents, spreadsheets, etc. It also allows you to create and run batch files on the files that are found. LockUp! 2.0 Hatton, Tim $10 #12244 lets you password protect any Windows application. It can assign a user ID number and a password to any program accessed through Program Manager. While this doesn't exactly provide iron-clad security, it will discourage the casual passerby from accessing your files. Sabdu 2.40 [SDU242] (12-93 CD) Berman, Stewart A. ASP $20 #3960 provides an interface for copying, comparing, and formatting diskettes. It reads, formats, and writes a track at a time, and can copy the entire contents of a diskette in a single pass. It reads a disk to memory or to a temporary hard disk file for faster duplication of multiple copies. Second Copy 4.01 [SECOP4] (11-93 CD) Centered Systems $28 #12514 backs up files in the background. It periodically monitors your disk directories for your important files and makes a second copy of those files to another disk or network drive. It automatically updates these second copies when you make changes or additions to your files. The program is easy to setup and use. SmartCat 1.1 Shareable Software International ASP $43 #12057 is a powerful floppy disk management system. Features include a virus scanner interface and archive support for ZIP, ARC, LZH, PAK and ARJ. Other features include multiple catalogs and sophisticated sorting, searching and reporting abilities. SitBack Lite for Windows 2.00 SitBack Technologies, Inc. ASP $18 #27798/4513 is an easy to use backup and storage management program for Windows. It includes comprehensive backup, restore, move and purge modules. The program can store commonly-used backup configurations and destination drive information, perform full or incremental backups, recreate subdirectory structures, compress files during backup, and copy files to any DOS device. Files to be backed-up can be selected by date, time, or extension. A preview function tells you how many disks are needed for the requested backup, and large files can be split onto multiple diskettes. Network support is also included. This is an excellent, cost effective package. WinBack 3.1c [WINBACK1, WINBACK2] (11-93 CD) Jurcik, Hal $25 #27798/4518 [2 disks] allows you to access the DOS commands BACKUP and RESTORE from within a Windows menu driven interface. You can easily back up selected subdirectories or your entire hard disk without having to use a DOS command line. VBRUN300 is included on these disks. Sync-It for Windows 2.00 Sitback Technologies, Inc. ASP $40 #4738 allows you to easily update files on different computers without having to connect any cables. It can utilize any removable storage device (floppy disks, Bernoulli cartridges, etc.), and is very easy to set up and use. Features include automatic splitting of large files onto multiple diskettes, file compression during transfers, automatic protection against updating files which were changed on both PCs, on-line documentation/help, and more. This is an indispensible utility if you regularly transfer files between laptop and desktop computers. Windows Grep Millington, H. $20 #4383 is an ASCII text search utility. In addition to searching files, it can count matching lines, invert matches, number lines, and optionally ignore case. To view the found files, you simply click on the filename in the resulting list. The program is very fast and extremely easy to use. WinDupe 1.13 (12-93 CD) MaeDae Enterprises $44 #12732 is a fast and powerful diskette duplicator for Windows. Features include single pass operation, format conversion, background operation, support for compressed diskette image files, diskette formatting options, and more. WizFormat 3.0 WizSoft $17 #20161/4625 [2 disks] makes it safe and easy to format disks. VBRUN200 is included on this disk. Finish Line for Windows 1.10 Innovative Designs $59 #4537 lets you finish words and phrases with a single keystroke. It automatically learns your vocabulary and writing style as you write, and pops up a window with a list of likely words to finish a phrase or sentence. This can be very useful with many types of software, from word processing to programming languages. SYSTEM UTILITIES: ================ *.INI-Navigator 3.1 [ININAV] (08-93 CD) Di Bacco, Daniel $15 #12306 allows advanced Windows users to easily manage INI files. You can quickly edit, save, and delete any INI file in the Windows directory. Back-up and restore options are available specifically for the all-important WIN.INI file. When working with larger files, section headings are alphabetically sorted in a separate list box. Clicking on an item in this box allows you to jump right to the section you want to edit. This is a very easy-to-use package with many useful features. VBRUN200 is included on this disk. Disk Throughput Test for Windows (DTTFW) Levy, Richard $25-$75 #20282 performs a read/write test on your hard disk. Throughput values are provided in kilobytes/sec. VBRUN300 is included. Available on 3.5" MegaDisk or CD only. WinInstall 3.0 [WINSTL] (09-93 CD) Aleph Systems $495/server #20260 (formerly Network Application Installer) allows network end users to install or remove Windows applications with a simple mouse click. The LAN administrator can easily set up new applications and can control enabling/disabling of the Remove option. The program automatically updates WIN.INI files, copies files to the local PC, and installs and removes icons from the local Windows configuration. Ten sample application data files are provided. Other features include support for user-specific variables, the ability to add icons to existing icon groups, modification of the SYSTEM.INI file, automatic creation of directories and nested subdirectories during file copy operations, an extensively redesigned interface, and more. VBRUN200 is included. Available on 3.5" 1.44mb MegaDisk and CD only. Dr. Watson Microsoft Corporation $0 #3681 collects diagnostic data when an Unrecoverable Application Error occurs to make it easier to get technical support. The Microsoft Diagnostics (MSD) program is also included. It identifies various system configuration information such as the BIOS, video card type and manufacturer, installed processor(s), I/O port status, operating system version, environment settings, hardware devices attached, and additional concurrently running software. Used in conjunction, these programs create a log file which can be sent to Microsoft to aid in finding and solving problems. Dr. Watson's Apprentice 3.0E [DWA30E] (10-93 CD) Stedy Software & Systems $10 #20105/4505 [2 disks] lets you view, print, delete or archive the Windows 3.1 Dr. Watson error log without having to use a text editor. Each system failure is viewed as a separate entry, providing general information, CPU registers, CPU 32 bit registers, system information, stack dump, and tasks. VBRUN200 is included on this set. EDOS for Windows 3.65-H [EDOS365] (12-93 CD) Firefly Software Systems, Inc. $70 #12570 is a powerful device driver program that adds many amazing features to your DOS sessions in Windows 386 Enhanced Mode. It adds internal commands that allow you to change your DOS sessions's PIF settings on the fly, set alarms which show a message box in Windows, add memory, disable "dangerous" DOS commands, and more. Five PIF files with icons are provided for DOS sessions of 736K, 704K, 640K, 128K, and 50K that allow you to use just the amount of memory you need. EDOS also provides each DOS window with a menu bar with file, edit, help, and view selections. Elana Rowe, Andrew $25 #3335 lets you change the SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI, and other settings that the control panel does not allow. It allows you to change the Windows startup logo, change the programs that are loaded at startup, modify file extension associations, and flush the WIN.INI cache. The unique graphic interface is nicely done. KFree 5.1 [KF510] (11-93 CD) Dragons Eye Software $25 #3351 displays the amount of free memory and disk space on your system. Optionally, it will also display free disk space for any drive, and display the number of applications currently running. MicroBoot 6.1 [MBOOT61.ZIP] (12-93 CD) Freel, Fred $30 #20329 is a set of system configuration utilities for Windows 3.1. It allows up to 10 levels of system configuration for both DOS and Windows, and allows for up to 10 different Program Managers. Other features include context sensitive help, multi-reboot and system copy options, and much more. Seven freeware utilities are also provided, including a system resource monitor, desktop clock, calendar, and a drag-and-drop WAV sound file player. VGA is required. This is available on 3.5" 1.44mb MegaDisk and CD only. WindSock SRM 3.20 Technical Pixies $0 #12258 is a detailed resource monitor for Window 3.0/3.1. Five types of resources are displayed: System Memory, GDI heap, User heap, Menu heap, and String heap. The small display window shows the percentage used and the actual amount remaining to the system. An optional window displays a graph of your usage of system resources over the last 300 samples. Alarms can be set to alert you when resources are becoming depleted. VIDEO: ====== BackDesk 2.4 SP Services 25 Pounds Sterling #3545 contains the following excellent desktop utilities: BACKMENU is a pop-up menu that lets you quickly run applications and tools. It can be used as a shell in place of Program Manager and includes a browse feature, auto-run of selected items, and a command line execution facility for 386/486 machines to start Windows apps from a DOS session. BIGDESK gives you a virtual desktop of up to 8x8 times the size of your screen. A small pop-up box shows you the full viewing area, with a frame around the area you are currently viewing, and shaded spots representing windows/icons located around the desktop. You can change the viewing area by simply dragging the frame around the pop-up box. It has Tiling/ Cascading/Scaling options, and Application Snap keeps programs centered. These are very well done utilities. Dragons Eye Utilities Dragons Eye Software $10/each #3976 contains the following programs: RUN 1.2 allows you to run one or more apps from the DOS command line or from within Windows. It also lets you give each app it's own command line. CLOSER 1.7 allows you to close applications as long as that application registers a window. CLEAN clears the clipboard and global compacts memory in order to squeeze any available memory out of Windows EXITW allows you to shut down Windows 3.0 without the Program Manager or File Manager arguing about it. STAYOPEN keeps third party programs from shutting down Windows until you close StayOpen. Fish! Tom & Ed's Bogus Software $25 #27742/3682 turns your desktop into an aquarium filled with a wide variety of colorful, beautifully detailed, animated fish. You can have fish floating around in the background all the time, as well as having the program function as a timed or on-demand screen blanker. Note: with Fish! loaded, it is easy to forget it is there until you click on the desktop. We found that graphics from some other programs would not appear on screen with Fish! loaded. Lois Groh, Lawrence, KS: "I deleted Fish from my hard disk after trying it, but now I get an Application Execution Error when starting Windows." PsL: Any program that loads and/or runs automatically on start-up has been added to the RUN or LOAD lines at the start of your WIN.INI file. Use NOTEPAD.EXE to edit WIN.INI and remove FISH from the RUN line. Fishex Seymour, Barry $5 #27742/4286 contains spaceship graphics for the popular Windows screen saver FISH! (on disk #3682). Included are old and new versions of the Enterprise along with other Federation, Klingon, and Romulan craft, the U.S. Space Shuttle, the Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space, and more. A background RLE file of a galaxy is also provided. ScreenShow Kamyan Software $15 #27742/4227 is a screen saver which will play AutoDesk Animator FLI and FLC animation files as well as display BMP, RLE, and DIB files. The animations and images can be combined into a script file which allows fade, looping, speed control, and many other parameters. Other features include password protection, extensive on-line help, multimedia sound support, and an autoload feature. This is an excellent package with many impressive options. Several animated movies are included. Seascape 1.3 Advanced Computer Tektonics ASP $10 #20144/12056 is an animated screen saver for Windows 3.1.It places from three to five realistic fish on your desktop, forever munching on the bits of food that drift down from the top of the screen. Password options are also provided. While the Cat's Away... 1.2 IVS Entertainment Software $12 #20144/12054 contains five animated screen savers for Windows 3.1. A password security option is provided that requires a password even if Windows is restarted. WinPak #1 1.2 Rhode Island Soft Systems ASP $20 #20144/12049 contains four entertaining WIN31 animated screen saver modules. Pass- word protection is provided, and an automated setup program makes installation extremely easy. Also included are two TrueType fonts, and 100 icons. WinPak #2 1.2 [WNPAK2] (08-93 CD) Rhode Island Soft Systems ASP $20 #12414 contains four original Windows 3.1 animated Screen Savers, two TrueType fonts, and over 100 icons. The screen savers include Slug (a slimy creature that leaves a trail of blackness across your screen), Snore (a sleeping man floating in space), and others. The fonts include a unique typeface in the shape of U.S. states. Fractal Frenzy 1.2 (08-93 CD) Desert Frog Software $15 #12406 is a set of three spectacular screen savers for Windows 3.1. These savers display palette-animated fractal scenes which run in 256 colors, even if you are running Windows in 16 colors. VGA is required. GrabIt Pro 4.0 [GBPRO4] (11-93 CD) Software Excellence by Design $35 #12483 allows you to quickly capture screens in Windows 3.1. The program runs as an icon and can capture an entire window, client area, the Desktop, or a user-selected area. Up to 400 images can be captured and viewed before being saved or copied to the clipboard. Screens can be saved in monochrome, 16-color, and 256-color bitmaps. Images may be saved in BMP or in space-saving RLE format. Harry's Installable Screen Savers 1.01 Harry C. Snyder $12 #4775 is a set of seven screen savers for Windows 3.1. Displays include bouncing lines, 3-D floating geometric objects, polygons, kaleidoscopes, bouncing popcorn with sound, and more. SnagIt 2.1 [SNAGIT] (11-93 CD) TechSmith Corporation $79 #4303 is a powerful screen capture and print utility. Captured areas can be sent to the printer or the Clipboard. You can capture the entire screen, a selected rectangle, a window (including non-client areas), or just the client area of the window. It has three different scaling options. The program also supports gray scale output with 256 levels of gray. Other features include Windows 3.1 support, TIFF file output for Word for Windows, and support for 32K color VGA boards. T2: The Screen Saver Sampler Pak [T2SAMPL.ZIP] (12-93 CD) Sound Source Unlimited $25 #12714 contains a WIN31 screen saver module, a BMP file, and three audio clips based on the movie "Terminator 2: Judgement Day". The screen saver is an incredible animated scene of a factory where the killer cyborgs are manufactured. It features password protection and digitized sounds. This is a MUST for all science-fiction fans! Visual FX Screen Saver [FXSAVE.ZIP] (12-93 CD) Hitchings, Tim $0 #12704 contains a WIN31 screen saver module that can display AutoDesk FLC, FLI, and AAS files. It can also play AVI files or move a user-selected BMP, ICO, or WMF file around the screen in four different styles. Requires VBRUN300. WinSecure Screen Saver [WINSEC10] (12-93 CD) ViewPoint Software, Inc. $13 #12640 is a screen saver that offers password protection. Another unique feature of this program is the ability to leave a message on screen and have someone reply without access to your files. VBRUN200 is included. PRINTING UTILITIES: ================== CodeMaker for Windows 1.7 Quinbar, Kirk $54 #4994 is a barcode generation system for Windows. It will print barcodes on either a dot matrix printer or an HP compatible laser printer, and supports 3 of 9, Int 2 of 5, UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN8, and EAN13 barcode styles. You can print a pre-defined quantity of the same label or a quantity of labels based on a starting serial number, and all information can be saved to disk for future use. Four predefined label sizes based on Avery specifications are supported, and custom label sizes can also be added. CodePrint 2.20 [CD_PRNT] (12-93 CD) Micro Software Solutions $20 #12731 prints files with many options: portrait or landscape paper orientation, multiple columns, headers and footers, the ability to specify font, style and size, border and column dividers, margin setting, word wrap, drag-and-drop, and more. Requires Windows 3.1. Envelogo 1.3 JMP Systems $29 #12513 prints envelopes with a fancy logo return address. You can set up several template files for different logos, and addresses can be imported via Windows Clipboard or manually typed in. Envelopes can be any size, and graphics and text can be placed anywhere you want on the template. VBRUN100 is included on this disk. Labels by Design 1.0 [LBD.ZIP] (09-93 CD) Spicer, John A. $20 #12487 is a unique address label printing program for Windows 3.1. It can use PrintMaster, Print Shop, and New Print Shop graphics as well as TrueType fonts. Graphics can also be imported from the clipboard or captured directly from the screen. This is designed for dot-matrix printers, and can print single labels or up to 9999 labels at a time. A preview function allows you to view graphic files before importing, and a sample graphic library is included. (See section DP-01 for disks containing additional graphics.) MultiLabel 3.0 [MULTILBL] (08-93 CD) Campbell, George $20 #4510 is a WYSIWYG label designing program. It supports standard Avery Laser Labels and custom label layouts. You can use any font available in Windows, import clip art, and preview clip art before loading onto the label.
